The numerous
menhirs are an amazing sight. They are made of light grey granite,
covered with lichen. Some have been knocked down, others have been
mutilated by modern stone masons, unaware of their invaluable importance,
and others still stand pointing towards the sky, bearing centuries
of suggestion and magic.

Very
recently, three cultural buildings were found in the piedmont area
of the Gremanu site. They belonged to a settlement of about 7 hectares
along the banks of Rio Gremanu, dating back to the medium Bronze Age
(XV - XIV centuries BC). Other buildings have been found inside a
Temenos (sacred space): a round temple, a rectangular temple with
the front in antis (naos walls extended in front) and apsidal wall
at the rear, and a megaron temple (rectangular shape in antis). Accurate
searches inside the naos of the megaron temple together with other
facts have shown that probably veneration was accompanied by a fusion
activity. This temple dates back to the Late and Final Bronze Age. |
